Stories of change from Northern Burundi
Phase 2 of Norwegian Church Aid's work in Northern Burundi is coming towards the end in early 2021. We wanted to find out how our joint interventions contributed to improve the life conditions of the people in the region which is very much affected by years of neglect following the end of the civil war in 2003.

DKK 195 million for important purposes in 2020
At yesterday's meeting, the Foundation Board approved the final donations of 2020. The decision brings the this year's total donations to 195 million DKK (~EUR 25 million or USD 31 million). The distribution between the three donation areas landed on 65 million for research and learning, 90 million for water and sustainable development, and 40 million for inclusion and community engagement. The Foundation also decided to keep the financial framework of 200 million for donations in 2021.

In April 2020, the Foundation contributed 2m DKK (265.000 EUR) toward Doctors Without Borders’ work in Lebanon. We received an update from the brave people who carry out the life-saving activities on the ground.

A “weather forecast” for COVID-19
Researchers at the Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University have developed a model that predicts whether specific COVID-19 restrictions have any effect. The calculations show that the North Denmark Region would have seen appx. 10,000 more COVID-19 cases over two months if no lockdown had been implemented in November. The hope is that the model can help decision-makers worldwide make the right decisions.

Combatting Covid-19 with clean water and handwashing
The Poul Due Jensen Foundation has been working with WaterAid Mozambique to combat the spread of Covid-19 with innovative and powerful hygiene behaviour change messaging and clean water in Mozambique. Focusing on high traffic areas such as markets and healthcare facilities, WaterAid’s work has put clean water and soap in the frontline against Covid-19.

Developing a water quality-based COVID-19 surveillance tool for non-sewered settlements
South Africa’s Water Research Commission and the Grundfos Foundation have partnered to develop a water quality-based surveillance tool for non-sewered settlements as part of city-wide approach that will complement the wastewater surveillance programme and in turn provide support to other means of tracking disease outbreaks.

Battery scientist wins 2020 Grundfos Prize
Jens Maaløe, Chairman of the Board of the Grundfos Foundation and Chairman of the Grundfos Prize Committee, presented the Grundfos Prize 2020 to Associate Professor Dorthe Bomholdt Ravnsbæk at an informal event in Bjerringbro on Thursday 12 November.

Community Grant secures drinking water in Baseco Compound, Philippines
With more than 60,000 inhabitants in a 53-hectare land area, the Baseco Compound is one of the largest and densest slums in the Philippines' capital, Manila. The congested community suffers from poor sanitation and access to safe and affordable drinking water. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to strike on businesses and other livelihood sources, families in Baseco need immediate help in alleviating their worsening condition.
